The Western Hoolock Gibbon Sings and Swings Along the Forest Canopies

Assam's Hollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary is one of its last homes

RG Sustain Staff

The western hoolock gibbon is a subspecies of the only ape found in India. With arms that are twice the length of its legs, it swings along high branches with ease, often covering vast distances with a single leap. But the ape is most commonly recognised by its song. From the heights of the forest canopy, the western hoolock gibbon produces a loud, elaborate song, that often ends in a spectacular crescendo.
